Federalists VS Jeffersoneans Essay -- essays papers

Federalists VS Jeffersoneans With respect to the federal Constitution, the Jeffersonian Republicans are usually characterized as strict constructionists who were opposed to the broad constructionism of the Federalists. As history dictates, this is found to be substantially accurate. Federalists were firm believers in the production of a strong central government and a broad interpretation of the Constitution. However, the Democratic Republicans believed that the government should follow a strict interpretation of the Constitution and held the idea that this would allow honest representation of the people and prevent government corruption. Thomas Jefferson was the driving force behind the Democratic Republicans, who were the main opposition of the Federalists. Virtually disagreeing with the Federalists on every issue, he planned to make considerable amount of changes to the system once he came into power. That he did when he was inaugurated March 4, 1801. In his speech, he stressed the need for a government of limited powers, economy in the national administration, support of state governments in all their rights, acquiescence in majority decisions, the preservation of civil liberties, and peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, and entangling alliances with none. Once in office, the Alien and Sedition Acts which were set by the federalists to control public negativity towards the party and to set limitations to foreigners in the US were not ...

Dulce Et Decorum Est Essay

The poem â€Å"Dulce et Decorum est’ was the work of Wilfred owen’s and in this essay I will be writing how the mood and atmosphere is made and what it is like. I will write about the horrific and sading mood of World War One. ‘Dulce et Decorum Est; is about the soldier’s expedience in the WW1 trenches in France. He writes about how the men are walking and coughing, he talk about how they look and talk, he then gose in to talk about the old lie dulce et decorum est pro patris mori. In the first stanza of the poem he talks about how horrifying the way the soldiers are walking. â€Å"bent double, like old beggars under sacks, knock-kneed, coughing like hags† he gives them impression that the young men are like old men with a bad back and knock kneed, they are like horrible old hags coughing and hacking to clear their throats of smoke and dirt. The startling description of the solders shows them to be in poor healthy creating a black and sad mood. In the second stanza he talks about how the solders are looking like and what is going on behind them. He shows you what they look likes by saying. â€Å"Men marched asleep, many had lost their boots, but limped on, blood-shot†. This make you think the solders are so tired from the war and the horrible fighting, that they look like the=y are all asleep with one shoe on and one off. That the war bad they are so tired, to tired to walk. Later in the stanza he goes on to say. â€Å"All went lame; all blind; drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots of tired, outstripped five-nines that dropped behind.† In this part of the poem he make it sound like they are all blind and all can’t walk, it make the atmosphere that they are all in a terrible condition and are extremely exhausted. In the third stanza is where the writer try to set the atmosphere to be horrifying and sadding, he use lots of words choses and other language techniques to set the mood and atmosphere, a good example is. â€Å"Gas! Gas! Quick, Boys!† with the short sentences is gives you the atmosphere of fear that the gas is coming and they have to be quick or they will die. In the last two stanzas the writer set the atmosphere by taking about after the gas attack. â€Å"If you could hear , at every jolt, the blood come gargling from the forth-corrupted lungs.† It make you think of what the gas can do to you and makes the mood a sading and terrifying, it make you think of the blood is coming from his lungs whenever the van jolts. It make an unsettling mood. Later in the last stanza he says. â€Å"The old lie; Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori† This means it is sweet and fitting to die for you country. This last sentences in the poem makes you see how horrifying, terrifying and sading the war really is, not the sweet or fitting but cruel and terrible. This set the atmosphere for the poem to be terrifying and horrible Overall, I think that the writer has made a particular atmosphere and mood thought out this poem and kept the mood thought out it. he effected use of poetic techniques to creat this atmosphere and to get this important message across.

Analyzing Sherman Alexie’s “Superman and me” Essay

Can reading save a man’s way of life? Can reading save an entire culture? Sherman Alexie, an Indian creative writer writes an essay of which he acquaints us of his means in learning how to read, that is, through a Superman comic book. The essay was written in an alternating first person and third person style of telling. The first person way of telling was for his reflection. Those sentences that were written in the first person were Alexie’s own sentiments. The third person style was for his people. Probably it was meant as an insult since people who normally speak in a third person style are often deemed unintelligent since they cannot follow the rules of language. As the essays retells the experience of the author of how he learned how to read, there is one topic of which he focused, and that is how reading (and how it is connected to education) made a different impact in his way of life which can be very significant or relevant to the modern world today whose kids are taking education for granted. Reading and education Reading is a cognitive process of connecting meaning to a group of words, sentences, and letters. Not many can take the time to discipline themselves into liking and having reading as a habit but over the years reading has become a standard of calling a person or treating a person literate. It has become a mean to elevate one’s status. However, based on Sherman Alexie’s essay, knowing how to read downgrades the status of an Indian person. Indians are treated as the Native Americans. They weren’t treated kindly as the natives of the new world as history tells. They were often treated as the group of people who struggles with the advancement of life. People who are not social. If Indians were compared to animals, the Indians were the wild animals. And according to Alexie’s essay, the ones who stays wild, are the ones who’s status are high in the Indian world. In the modern world today, education has been treated as one of the major concerns of nations. More and more, the value and the quality of education have gone low and people in advance nations and culture are taking it for granted. On the other hand, Alexie and his dad are examples of people who defy the norms of their own society. People who counteracts their culture thus forming a kind a heroic act or in times a crime for/to their own people. â€Å"I am trying to save our lives. † (Alexie 2). Alexie expressed his sentiment of saving their lives in two styles. One was personal and the other was towards the children he was teaching. While he defied the accustomed treatment of Indians to non-Indian education (i. e. how he had man arguments with his classmates to shut up his mouth towards the questions of the non-Indian teacher), he was hopeful that his people might change their attitude towards education (the reason why he ought to be a teacher among his people). In some ways, education defines how a person hopes for his worth. It is more than the status, it also creating an opportunity for one’s self and knowing how to use education in helping one feel fulfilled.
